My name is Melinda Kurtti. I am the owner/photographer for Other Than Roses Photography.
My life in photography...
I was first handed a Minolta Film 35mm camera by my Dad at the age of 8. I didn’t know how to change any of the settings – all I knew was how to focus and push the button. That first experience with his camera became my lifelong pursuit, passion and pleasure. From then on I was often found with a camera in my hand. My first real photography experience (aka - paid job) began back in 1987 right after high school when I went to work for a local commercial photographer. It was there I learned that I needed to train my eye to see life through a camera lens. It was quickly noted that my ‘eye’ had a natural talent. I found out that just taking a random shot without any thought or composition usually meant an image tossed in the scrap pile. I learned how to view photography as an art, and how to compose my subjects into the image to achieve beautiful images that capture the moment!
From then until 2007 my photography was focused mostly on capturing natures beauty, scenic landscapes, flora & fauna.. and of course my growing children. Now that they are grown, I decided to venture more into different of aspects photography. I shot my first wedding for a friend and was hooked! I love being able to capture memories from one of a couples most cherished and important moments of their lives!

I love living and working in my hometown of San Antonio with my Fiancé, Aaron, and our two dogs, Simon & Dexter. I specialize in photographing weddings, but also do special events, model portfolios and some casual on-location portraiture. The Central Texas area is a beautiful place for wedding photography, portraits and provides beautiful sunsets! I work most often in the Central Texas area, but I am happy to travel anywhere to help out couples that love my work.
